| Chiefs Clip Millers in Tight Contest, 3-2 | In a low-scoring affair between the Chicago Chiefs and the Minneapolis Millers, pitcher Larry Barker was the difference between victory and defeat. The Chicago right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Chiefs win. Chicago reliever Bob McKinney snagged the win, upping his record to 3-0. Ben Baird shouldered the loss. Minneapolis now owns a losing streak of 6 games.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Harry McDaniel came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Minneapolis pitcher Ben Baird, he hit a 1-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 3-2.
"That's baseball," said Minneapolis manager Harry Hammond. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders." | |
