| Clippers Defeat Keystones, 8-1 | The Baltimore Clippers defeated the Philadelphia Keystones, 8-1. Doing his part was third baseman Hal Blank, who went 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. George Brown got credit for the save for Baltimore. It was his 1st of the year. Baltimore, at 24-21, occupies second place in the Federal Association East.
Hank Wallace had a big 2-run home run for the Clippers in the bottom of the first inning. With Baltimore leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Doc Carver, who led the FA in wins with 18 in 1969, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Clippers on top, 3-0.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Wallace told the Baltimore Citizen. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you." | |
