Chiefs Beaten By Eagles, 3-1 | Jim Stewart, who is tied for 4th in the FA in wins with 7, imposed his will on the Chiefs from the get-go. Relying mainly on his curveball, the left-hander spearheaded the 3-1 Washington triumph. Otto Caudill closed it out for Washington, earning his 2nd save. The third-place Eagles hiked their record to 36-21.
The Eagles got a big at-bat from third baseman Tom Lorang. For the game, Lorang was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 15th home run of the season gave Washington a 2-0 lead.
Lorang called the win a test of his team's "mettle." | |
