| Mavericks Get Past New York, 3-2 | Fans watched the Kansas City Mavericks and the New York Imperials fight to the finish.
King Brown pitched well, but his team, the New York Imperials, still dropped a 3-2 decision to the Kansas City Mavericks at Dyckman Stadium. Eddie Van der Heyden earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record is now 2-0. Picking up his 1st save was 33-year old right-handed pitcher Van Taylor.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Chuck Cohen to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mavericks on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Cohen attributed the win to "an all-around good team performance."
The Mavericks sport a record of 18-30. | |
