Eagles Prevail, 3-1, Over Chicago | The home crowd had a good time watching the Chicago Chiefs and Washington Eagles get after it.
The Washington Eagles got a marvelous performance from pitcher Owen Lantz. The right-hander kept the Chicago offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 3-1 Washington victory at Columbia Stadium. Lantz got the win, improving to 7-1. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. He allowed 1 run.
Ralph Weatherbee went 1 for 3 with a walk for Washington. The 26-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off John Thomas. It was his 29th walk of the season.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Lantz.
With the win, the Eagles sit at 35-21. | |
