| Eagles Send Atlanta Home with 3-2 Loss | In a low-scoring contest between the Washington Eagles and the Atlanta Copperheads, Sam Rodgers was the X factor. The Washington right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. With this game in the books, Washington is 20-25, Atlanta 27-17.
Howdy Oakes, who finished 5th in the FA in batting average with .306 in 1971, aided the Washington cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the catcher drove in one run.
Oakes told reporters after the game: "This one was touch and go, but we were able to put it in the win column."
