| Chicago Absorbs 2-1 Loss to Houston | In a low-scoring game between the Houston Comets and the Chicago Chiefs, pitcher Johnny Blackburn was the difference-maker. The Houston right-hander was tough as nails in the 2-1 Comets win. Blackburn yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 4-3. Bob Young sewed up the save, his 5th.
The Chiefs had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Comets going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old second baseman Maury Moore came to the plate. Moore hit a run-scoring triple on a full count fastball from Chicago hurler Johnny Maples. It was Moore's 2nd triple of the year.
"The old adage is true," said Blackburn. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
With the win, the Comets have a record of 28-14.
