St. Louis second baseman Bob Bell was sensational. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Los Angeles beat the Pioneers, 9-7. The winning pitcher was Grant Davis. His record now stands at 3-3. The right-hander went 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits for the Suns. The Pioneers, now 32-13, have lost 5 in a row.

Andy Hervey had a big 3-run home run for the Suns in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Los Angeles trailing 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Charlie Blake, who finished 5th in the FA in saves with 14 in 1959, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Suns on top, 5-3.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Hervey, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
