Suns Lose Late, 7-2 | Philadelphia catcher Tom Cooprider contributed significantly to his team's 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Suns. Cooprider, who finished 5th in the CA in slugging percentage with .434 in 1952, went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Keystones. Charlie Rushing, who finished 3rd in the FA in saves with 15 in 1958, was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-6. The losing pitcher was Red Burtch. Philadelphia sits in 6th place in the Federal Association at 49-50.
Had Andy Parker not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Parker hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Keystones.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Philadelphia skipper Don Fox. | |
