John Moreland added some punch to the Atlanta offense, helping them outmuscle the Boston Minutemen, 8-7. In the game, Moreland, who led the FA in triples with 13 in 1970, was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The win makes Atlanta 26-15.

The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Atlanta trailing 7-6, Moreland jumped on a sinker from 28-year old left-handed pitcher Bud Shireman and hit a 2-run home run to left. With one swing, the Copperheads had a walk-off win.

"The ending was a real humdinger," Moreland told reporters after the game.
