| Saints Dismiss Wolves, 4-2 | Montreal and Toronto duked it out and the Saints came out victorious.
Montreal starter Jose Martinez pitched well against the Toronto Wolves at Dominion Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-2. Martinez, now 2-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs.
Vance Ferguson had a big run-scoring double for the Saints in the top of the second inning. With Montreal leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from Al Bailey, who finished 5th in the FA in saves with 18 in 1968, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Saints ahead, 2-0.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Martinez.
The win puts Montreal at 15-24. | |
