Wranglers Edge Cannons, 5-4 | The Dallas Wranglers did just enough to sneak past the Cincinnati Cannons, 5-4, at Tice Memorial Stadium II. Dallas pitcher Rex Conner, in particular, had a standout performance. Conner, now 3-2, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 7, and allowing 4 runs. Earning his 8th save for Dallas was Hank Berkowitz.
Dallas shortstop Earle Farmer contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the first. With two down, he hit a screwball to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 45th hit of the season and put the Wranglers ahead, 2-0.
"Rex throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Dallas manager Tom Aiello.
The win has Dallas at 18-32. | |
