Millers Topple Chiefs, 5-1, as Coe Shines | The Minneapolis Millers knocked off the Chicago Chiefs, 5-1, at Whitney Park. Don Coe was a big reason Minneapolis won. The catcher went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Ed Power, who threw 107 pitches over 6.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 9 hits. The win puts Minneapolis at 37-59.
With Minneapolis leading 2-1 in the top of the sixth, Coe hit a run-scoring single off Chicago hurler Vern Osborne. It was the 49th hit of the season for Coe and put his team ahead, 3-1.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Minneapolis manager Frank Vance. | |
