Miners Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Eagles, 7-4 | The rain did not keep Pittsburgh and Washington from finishing their game.
The Pittsburgh Miners weathered a fine game by Washington center fielder Al Clark to upend the Eagles, 7-4, at Fitzpatrick Park. Clark was 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Pittsburgh reliever Manny Espinosa snagged the win, upping his record to 2-5. Otto Caudill shouldered the loss. Stan Davis earned his 1st save, after closing out the game.
Had Dixie Turner not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Turner hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Miners.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Turner told the Pittsburgh Daily News.
The 6th-place Miners bumped their record to 23-24. | |
