Minutemen Beaten By Pioneers, 5-1 | The St. Louis Pioneers got a stellar effort from pitcher Frenchy Mack, helping St. Louis score a win over the visiting Boston Minutemen, 5-1. Mack, now 15-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. John Gibson notched his 13th save in 18 chances.
Bob Bell, who leads the FA in home runs with 30, contributed to the St. Louis win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Mack said.
