Stewart Stops Chicago
Before the game, Jim Stewart said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Columbia Stadium, the Eagles pitcher blanked the Chicago Chiefs, 18-0.

"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Stewart said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."

The Washington starter held Chicago scoreless, giving up 2 hits while registering 4 strikeouts and issuing 4 walks.

"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Chiefs manager Dutch Becker said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."

Stewart has fashioned a 11-5 mark for the season, 3.45 ERA and thrown 143.1 innings in 19 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .237 against him.
