| Cannons Prevail, 4-2, Over Montreal | The Montreal Saints could not turn a fine performance from second baseman Bob Vernon into a win. Instead, the Cincinnati Cannons prevailed, 4-2. Vernon went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Moe Powell, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Saints to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 7. Eddie Martin earned the save for Cincinnati.
Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Dallas Berry to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cannons ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Berry said after the game.
Cincinnati goes to 1-1.
