Millers Earn Win with Late Rally
Crowds lined up early in front of Pioneer Field III, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1974 Federally Aligned Baseball Leagues season. On the mound was Hank Wagner for the visiting Minneapolis Millers and Red Kline for the hometown St. Louis Pioneers. In a spirited contest, the Millers pulled out the win, defeating the Pioneers by the score of 7-6. Especially impressive was Bill Anderson. Minneapolis reliever Joe Pratt was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Joe Kienle.

Minneapolis used the timely hitting of John Edwards to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Millers on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"What's not to like about a win?" said Edwards.
