Hitting Streak Still Alive for Owens
Sunday, May 23rd , 1948
Joe Owens continued his streak at Pioneer Field II today, even as the ballgame did not go his way. The Pittsburgh left fielder was 1-for-4 in today's contest and now has hit safely in his last 20 games. The Miners were not as fortunate, losing 4-1 to the St. Louis Pioneers.

"Owens was hitting everything we threw at him," said St. Louis manager Hugh Luckey. "He is a tough out. Fortunately, things went our way in the ballgame today and we came away with a win."
Joe Owens grounded out in the 1st, grounded out in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

This year Owens has socked 38 hits in 114 at-bats for a .333 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .415 pace and his totals also include 12 RBIs and 23 runs scored.
