 | Schmidt Removed in New York; Fired as Manager Tuesday, October 20th , 1942 Today the Stars made an announcement: The era of Otto Schmidt is over in New York. After a disappointing season, the club officials sat down with Schmidt to discuss their decision to make a change. "It wasn't a surprise to me," Schmidt said speaking with reporters. "As a team we did not perform up to people's expectations, nor to my expectations. When that happens, someone has to take the blame. This year, that person was me." In an official statement, Stars general manager Chapman expressed gratitude for Schmidt's efforts, but confirmed the need to look for a different voice in the clubhouse. "We thank Otto for providing class, professionalism, experience and leadership during his tenure with the club, but believe we need to make this important change to our team's management," he said. |   |
