| Cannons Star Pitcher Wins Triple Crown Monday, September 28th , 1942 Rufus Barrell II of the Cincinnati Cannons could be headed for the Continental Association Allen Award after an unforgettable 1942 season. The Cannons pitching star won the league's Triple Crown, winning 24 games, striking out 163 and logging a 1.76 ERA -- all league bests.
"It's an honor," Barrell II told BNN, "Not many pitchers can say they've won the Triple Crown. Usually the batting Triple Crown gets all the attention."
