Stars Pick Up 3-1 Road Win Over Cleveland | With left fielder Jack Welch leading the charge, the New York Stars defeated the Cleveland Foresters, 3-1, at Forester Stadium. Welch, who is tied for 4th in the CA with a .910 OPS, went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Jack Wood, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-3. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 0 and walking 5. The win lifted the New York record to 29-22.
With New York leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Welch hit a fastball from Gordie Irwin for a 2-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Stars ahead, 3-0.
