New York picked up a win at Minuteman Stadium, bumping off the Boston Minutemen, 5-3. Pitcher Buddy Long was a major reason the Gothams emerged victorious. Long, now 12-5, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 0, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. New York has now won 4 games in a row.

The Minutemen had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Gothams going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 1939 Whitney Award winner George Cleaves came to the plate. Cleaves hit a bases-clearing triple on a 1-2 curveball from Boston hurler Ray Dalpman. It was Cleaves's 5th triple of the year.

Long said he was "thrilled" the fans had something to get excited about.
