Pete Papenfus led the Chicago Cougars to a 6-0 shutout victory over the New York Stars at Cougars Park today.

"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Papenfus recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."

Papenfus yielded 2 hits and had 3 strikeouts and no walks in the standout performance.

"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," New York manager Ken Tannen said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."

In 17 starts this year Papenfus has posted 8 wins while suffering 5 losses. He has pitched 140 innings, allowed 127 hits, struck out 74 and has a 3.02 ERA.
