Cleaves Lifts Gothams to 6-4 Win
The 6-4 New York win over St. Louis was due in large part to George Cleaves. The Gothams catcher went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was Buddy Long. He's now 7-2. He went 9 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits for the Gothams. New York leads the Federal Association by 6½ games.

With New York leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Cleaves hit a sinker from Tom Buchanan for a 2-run home run. It was his 10th home run of the season and put the Gothams ahead, 4-0.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Cleaves.
