Miners Prevail, 6-4, Over Chicago | Ron Rattigan did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Chicago Chiefs from losing, 6-4, to the Pittsburgh Miners at Fitzpatrick Park. Rattigan went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 3 runs. George Philips earned the win to go to 4-6. He allowed 4 runs on 14 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts in 9 innings of work. With the win, Pittsburgh upped its record to 33-30.
The Miners benefited from an error in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pittsburgh was trailing 3-2 when Pablo Reyes hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Pittsburgh in front, 4-3.
In postgame comments to the Pittsburgh Chronicle, Reyes said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come." | |
