Foresters Throttle Sailors, 8-0 | The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.
Ducky Davis, who finished 5th in the CA in wins with 16 in 1949, had a strong outing for the Cleveland Foresters against the San Francisco Sailors at Forester Stadium. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 8-0 win. Davis yielded no runs over 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 5-2. Augie Hayes Jr. finished to wrap up his 2nd save.
Making an impact for the home team was Tom Jeffries. In the bottom of the fourth, the two-time All-Star had a run-scoring walk. That made the score 2-0, Foresters.
"Ducky made some big pitches when he needed to," said Foresters manager Art Newton.
The Continental Association-leading Foresters are 32-22. | |
