World Championship Series Game 1 Victory for Lawson and San Francisco | The San Francisco Sailors started the World Championship Series in style, downing the visiting St. Louis Pioneers at Golden Gate Stadium by a score of 7-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Sailors right-hander Charlie Lawson threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball.
In the bottom of the third, San Francisco first baseman Ray Rogan had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and two out, Rogan stroked a 2-run double to center. It made the score 5-2, San Francisco. For the game, he went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Every team in baseball loses," Pioneers manager Lou Ormsby said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
