Watson Slugs Cougars to 7-5 Win | The Chicago Cougars defeated the Montreal Saints, 7-5, in part because of right fielder Henry Watson. Watson went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Cougars. Bob Allen, the winning pitcher, improved to 7-6. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The Saints have now dropped 5 straight.
Watson contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Chicago in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Watson took a fastball from Bob Nelson and stroked the home run to right-center. His 31st home run of the season allowed the Cougars to leap in front, 3-1.
"I like to lead by example," said Watson. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win." | |
