Foresters Flatten Cannons, 9-3
The Cleveland Foresters knocked off the Cincinnati Cannons, 9-3, at Forester Stadium. Frenchy Sonntag was a big reason Cleveland won. The center fielder was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Hugh Blumenthal, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1947 draft, was the winner. He's now 2-0. The loser was Jimmy Block. Augie Hayes Jr. finished the game for Cleveland and earned his 1st save.

The Cannons had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Foresters going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 1950 Kellogg Award winner Larry McClure came to the plate. McClure hit a 3-run home run on a 1-1 slider from Cincinnati hurler Jimmy Block. It was McClure's 1st home run of the year.

"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said McClure. "Those qualities define our team."

The Foresters have hit the ground running, raising their record to 8-3. While it's still too soon to talk about Cleveland hoisting their 4th World Championship Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
