Stars Rally Late to Nip Saints
The Los Angeles Stars knocked off the Montreal Saints, 9-8, at Bigsby Stadium. Ed Howard was a big reason Los Angeles won. The shortstop went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Los Angeles reliever Mel Maddox picked up the win, raising his record to 2-1. Jim Pepper was tagged with the loss. The Stars now own a record of 57-48.

The climactic moment came in the bottom of the tenth for Los Angeles. That's when Ralph Barrell, the 2nd overall pick in the 1958 draft, hit a solo home run off Jim Pepper to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Montreal manager Johnny Gilbert. "The effort was great."
