Williams, Miners Wreck Pioneers, 11-2 | Good production from right fielder Paul Williams helped the Pittsburgh Miners topple the St. Louis Pioneers, 11-2. Williams went 3-5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Miners. The winner was Howie Harris, who threw 128 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits. Now 9-3, the 1954 Miners have been phenomenal so far.
The Miners got a gift in the top of the first inning, when they were leading 2-0. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Glen Sexton reached on an error by the SS, driving in 2 runs. It made the score 4-0, Pittsburgh.
