Imperials Edge Wolves, 4-3 | The New York Imperials picked up a win at Dyckman Stadium, taking down the Toronto Wolves, 4-3. Starting pitcher Bob Roberts was a big reason why. Roberts, now 4-9, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. New York, with the win, sits at 22-74.
Jay Ziegler Jr. had a big run-scoring double for the Imperials in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 3-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Jimmy Pepper, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1953 draft, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Imperials ahead, 4-1.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Ziegler Jr. said. | |
