Washington and Pittsburgh duked it out and the Eagles came out victorious.

The Washington Eagles defeated the Pittsburgh Miners, 5-2, in Federal Association action at Columbia Stadium. Washington pitcher Bob Ball had a standout performance. In 9 innings, Ball surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs.

The Eagles got a big at-bat from right fielder Jimmy Brown. For the game, Brown went 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Washington a 2-0 lead.

"It was a good effort all around," said Brown.

Pittsburgh, at 4-13, is off to a poor start in 1962.
