| Matsumura, Sailors Too Much for Kites | The Osaka Sailors reigned over the Kinboshi Kites in damp conditions.
Bunmei Matsumura impressed in the 12-4 Osaka win over Kinboshi. Matsumura was 3-6 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 times and driving in 6. The winner in relief was Toshitada Masuda. He is now 1-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Kikuichi Shirai? The 1960 Most Valuable Player Award winner Shirai stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Osaka up, 6-4. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Pleased with the effort and the win," said Sailors manager Heikichi Kawasaki.
The Kites drop to 11-11 and continue their mediocre start to the 1962 season.
