Crowds lined up early in front of Konohana Stadium, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1962 Baseball Association of Nippon season. On the mound was Tatsuharu Oto for the visiting Kobe Bulls and Keiji Tamura for the hometown Kinboshi Kites. In a spirited contest, the Kites pulled out the win, defeating the Bulls by the score of 3-2. Especially impressive was Keiji Tamura. Kinya Kodama, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings.

Sueo Shimabukuro went 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Kinboshi. The four-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Kiyomitsu Wada. It was his 2nd walk of the season.
