| Reliables Come Up Short at Sapporo, 5-4 | Sapporo center fielder Hidetsugu Yoshida made his presence felt in the 5-4 Bears triumph over the Hosho Reliables. Yoshida went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 3 RBI. Seikichi Nagamatsu, the winner, is now 2-0. He struck out 5 and walked 2 over 7.1 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. The loss drops Hosho to 5-3.
With Sapporo leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Yoshida hit a run-scoring single off Hosho hurler Niou Nagao. It was the 8th hit of the season for Yoshida and put his team ahead, 4-2.
"Hidetsugu leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Sapporo manager Earl Higgins.
