| Bears Win at Home, 9-4 | The Sapporo Bears weathered an outstanding game by Kyoto catcher Tadao Hasegawa to topple the Owls, 9-4. Hasegawa hit 2 home runs. Tomochika Takada picked up the win, lifting his record to 1-0 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 2 in 7.2 innings, while yielding 4 runs. The win puts Sapporo at 3-3.
Shinichi Takahashi had a big bases-clearing double for the Bears in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Sapporo leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Isoroku Furuta, who finished 4th in the EL in strikeouts with 157 in 1958, and swatted a double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bears ahead, 6-2.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Takahashi told the Sapporo Observer. "It's as simple as that."
