Suns Deal Chiefs 6-2 Defeat | The Los Angeles Suns locked up a win at Whitney Park, knocking off the Chicago Chiefs, 6-2. On the mound for Los Angeles was left-hander Doc Carver. He played a major role in the triumph. Carver, now 1-2, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Chicago now has a record of 6-5.
Dick Turner had a big solo home run for the Suns in the top of the sixth inning. With Los Angeles leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Vern Osborne, who finished 2nd in the FA in ERA with 2.87 in 1958, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Suns on top, 2-0.
"Doc was doing a good job pouring in strikes," said Los Angeles manager Bill Morrill. | |
