| Cougars Fight for 2-1 Win | The Chicago Cougars topped the San Francisco Sailors, 2-1, in Continental Association action at Golden Gate Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Chicago pitcher Bobby Crooks. Crooks yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 6, and struck out 5. His record improves to 6-6. The Cougars sit in 5th place in the Continental Association with a record of 71-77.
Chicago won the game in part because of Garland Phelps. The catcher ripped a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cougars ahead, 2-1. For the game, Phelps had 1 double and 1 home run in 3 at-bats.
"We won," said Phelps. "But they made us earn it."
