Big Day for Hopkins in 12-3 Chiefs Win
Tim Hopkins helped his team muscle past the Washington Eagles, 12-3. In the game, the Chicago first baseman went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 5. Duke Hendricks earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings. His record is now 4-1. The win gives Chicago a season record of 74-73.

Chicago used a clutch at-bat from Rod Shearer to capture the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Irv Howard said.
