Stars Win, 5-2, Versus Cougars | Chicago first baseman Gene Case had a good game, even if his team did not. The Cougars dropped a 5-2 decision to Los Angeles at Bigsby Stadium. Case was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Dewey Allcock, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 8-3. Ted Ferguson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 15th save.
Tom Clement had a big run-scoring double for the Stars in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Los Angeles leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a sinker from Ken Stone, who is tied for 7th in the CA in quality starts with 14, and swatted a double to right. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Stars ahead, 2-0.
Clement told a Los Angeles Daily News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
The third-place Stars lifted their record to 69-45. | |
