Big Day by Hackberry Ignites Dynamos Win
Dynamos center fielder Edwin Hackberry left his mark on his team's 7-2 win over the St. Louis Pioneers. Hackberry, who won the Kellogg Award in 1947, was 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for Detroit in the contest. Joe Hancock, the winning pitcher, is now 14-5. He went 9 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while fanning 2 and walking 4. The Dynamos now own a record of 90-55.

Hackberry contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Detroit in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Hackberry took a forkball from Hiram Steinberg and stroked the home run to right. His 20th home run of the season allowed the Dynamos to leap in front, 3-2.

Hackberry told a Detroit Bulletin reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
