Philadelphia Topples St. Louis, 4-0 | Ed Thompson was instrumental in his team's 4-0 triumph over the St. Louis Pioneers. The center fielder went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 runs for the Philadelphia Keystones. Joe Hess, the winner, improved to 10-11. He held the Pioneers to no runs on 3 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 7. The 6th-place Keystones sport a record of 64-76.
Buddy Miller had a big 2-run home run for the Keystones in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Coaker Vecchio and punished it. The result was his 32nd home run of the season, which put the Keystones on top, 3-0.
"I'm not out here to win a beauty contest," said Miller. "Obviously." | |
