Foresters Win Thriller, 3-1 | Los Angeles got a valiant performance from pitcher Cal Johnston, but it wasn't enough to beat the Cleveland Foresters. Cleveland won the game, 3-1. Johnston threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The Foresters move to 54-51 with the win, while the Stars drop to 64-39.
The climactic moment came in the bottom of the ninth for Cleveland. That's when Paul Williams, who finished 3rd in the FA in slugging percentage with .517 in 1952, hit a 2-run home run off Ted Ferguson to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.
"Walking a team off at the end -- there's no greater feeling," said Williams. | |
