| Hawks Lose at Home, 5-3, to Portland | Hawks Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the San Francisco Hawks and Portland Green Sox.
The Portland Green Sox topped the San Francisco Hawks, 5-3, in Great Western League action at Hawks Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Portland pitcher and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native Pete Brown. Brown, now 5-4, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 8, and allowing 3 runs. Kid Campbell got the save, his 4th in 4 chances.
Portland used a well-timed hit by Lew Seals to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Green Sox ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
Brown called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
Portland is now 36-44.
