Charlie Barrell impressed in the 14-4 Los Angeles win over Montreal. Barrell, who finished 2nd in the CA in wins above replacement with 7.2 in 1953, was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5. The Saints fall to 12-16 and continue to sputter in the early going.

With Los Angeles leading 11-4 in the bottom of the eighth, Barrell batted against Montreal pitcher Hi Craig. Barrell hit a fastball to left for a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Stars on top, 14-4.

"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Johnny Gilbert told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
