Houston Bulls starter Tommy Shafer pitched his team past the San Diego Conquistadors, 2-1. Shafer picked up the win for Houston, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 7-0. Jim Bob Jones recorded his 5th save for Houston.

Had Bob Corvin not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Corvin hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Bulls.

"Runs were at a premium," said Houston manager Jerry Wilcher.

The Bulls, now 20-10, have played some good baseball in the early going.
