| Bulls Beat Green Sox, 6-4 | The Houston Bulls topped the Portland Green Sox, 6-4, in Great Western League action at Bulls Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Houston pitcher and Brooklyn, New York, native Tommy Shafer. Shafer went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 10. His record improves to 5-0. Jim Bob Jones earned the save for Houston, his 2nd.
Contributing to the Houston win was Art Cascone. In the bottom of the sixth, the 35-year old right fielder had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That made the score 6-4, the Bulls in front.
"We've got a great group of guys," Cascone said, "and we're having fun right now."
The Green Sox fall to 7-12 and continue their lackluster start in 1949.
