The San Francisco Hawks topped the Portland Green Sox, 6-3, at Porter Stadium. San Francisco center fielder Orlin Yates banged out 2 singles and 1 double, while driving in 3 runs. Hugh Schneider, 4-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Robby Grand was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Yates had a timely hit for San Francisco in the top of the ninth. With Portland trailing 3-1, he turned a 1-0 sinker into a bases-clearing double. It was his 2nd double of the season, making it 4-3, San Francisco.
Yates attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Hawks, now 10-4, have hit the ground running this season.
